The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered an upset loss behind the struggles of starting pitcher Johan Oviedo.
Pittsburgh lost 4-6 on the road to the St. Louis Cardinals of the Major League Baseball (MLB) 2023 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, on Thursday (April 4). Their season record is now 63 wins and 74 losses.
Pittsburgh’s lineup for the game was: Keebrean Hayes (third base), Brian Reynolds (left field), Andrew McCutchen (designated hitter), Conor Jo (first base), Miguel Andujar (right field), Leover Peguero (shortstop), Zack Swinski (center field), Vinny Capra (second base), and Jason Delay (catcher). The starting pitcher was Oviedo.
It wasn’t a bad start. With one out in the top of the second inning, Andujar pulled a four-pitch cut fastball from St. Louis starter Zach Thompson for a solo arch over the left field fence.
Pittsburgh’s lead was short-lived, however. After Nolan Gorman’s RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the second, the Pirates added a run in the top of the third on Jordan Walker’s solo shot.
Pittsburgh tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Peguero that scored Reynolds from third on a grounder to shortstop by Cho, but lost the lead again in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Alec Burleson. After giving up one more run in the bottom of the seventh, Pittsburgh got one back in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to two, but could not close the gap any further.
Oviedo suffered his 14th loss of the season, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits (one home run) with six strikeouts and two walks in 3⅔ innings. At the plate, McCutchen, Andujar, and Peguero all had multi-hit performances.메이저놀이터
Meanwhile, Bae Ji-hwan, who had extended his hitting streak to two games with a multi-hit performance in the previous game, was left out of the starting lineup and didn’t even get on base as a substitute.
