‘Is there no tree you can’t shoot over 10 times?’ Detroit still wants Williams as new head coach

Detroit has already turned down Williams, but they still want him as their new head coach.

The Detroit Pistons have been a league underdog in recent years. In 2018-2019, they hired Dwane Casey as head coach and made the playoffs with then-ace Blake Griffin (206cm, F) and Andre Drummond (208cm, C).

However, the following season, 2019-2020, Detroit was stuck in the bottom half of the standings. Along the way, the team traded away franchise star Drummond and released other veterans. They even released Griffin for the 2020-2021 season.

The rebuilding Detroit used draft picks to select Killian Hayes (196 cm, G), Cade Cunningham (198 cm, G), and Isaiah Stewart (203 cm, F), while also acquiring prospects such as Marvin Begley III (203 cm, F) and James Wiseman (213 cm, C) via trade.안전놀이터

Under Casey, however, Detroit hasn’t shown much promise. The team continued to finish in the bottom half of the standings, and there was no dramatic improvement from its main players. Even this season, they failed to play solid basketball, finishing at the bottom of the league with a record of 17 wins and 65 losses. As a result, Detroit has decided to look for a new head coach to replace Casey, who has led the team for many years.

Currently, Detroit is looking at Monty Williams as a possible candidate for the new head coach. However, according to Mark Stein of The Stein Line, “former head coach Monty Williams turned down Detroit’s head coaching offer.”

Nevertheless, Detroit still wants Williams. “Williams has already turned down an offer from Detroit. However, Detroit is still hopeful of landing Williams.”

Williams was hired by the Phoenix Suns for the 2019-2020 season. The Suns, who were in the bottom half of the league at the time, were reborn under Williams, finishing second in the West in 2020-2021 and first in the West in 2021-22.

This season, they finished the regular season in fourth place in the West. Despite his success in the regular season, he was unable to make much of an impact in the playoffs other than one NBA Finals appearance and parted ways with Phoenix. While the end was disappointing, what he did accomplish was remarkable, which is why Detroit wants Williams as their head coach.
