Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, of the Toronto Blue Jays, is accelerating his return to Major League Baseball (MLB) by accompanying the team on a trip to the Tampa Bay Rays.
According to Toronto fan site Bluebird Banter, Ryu accompanied the team to a game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 23 (KST).메이저사이트
The Toronto club also posted a video on its official Twitter account of Ryu doing a “V” pose at Tropicana Field. “Hello friend,” the post read in Korean. “Ryu will be pitching out of the bullpen,” Bluebird Banter said, adding, “He hasn’t been scheduled for a specific start yet, but it’s part of his preparation for his return.”
Sportscaster Hazel May also tweeted a quote from Toronto manager John Schneider, who said, “No timetable yet, but he’s making good progress in his rehab.”
Ryu is expected to return to the mound in mid-July after throwing a bullpen session, followed by a live pitching session, and then an on-field session. “Ryu and Green will throw live pitches against hitters next month,” Toronto general manager Ross Atkins said on April 16.
Ryu has been rehabbing since undergoing left elbow ligament splicing surgery (Tommy John surgery) in June of last year, which ended his 2022 season.
