“Roma is a great club with a great history. I am delighted to sign for Roma. I think it’s the right project for me because Roma is an important team, they have a strong squad and special fans. He made his professional debut in 2017 after spending his youth career with French club Olympique Lyonnais. He earned a regular spot in the starting lineup from the 2017-18 season and showed his quality by covering a wide midfield area. He also produced a number of offensive points, notably 15 in 2018-19 (7 goals, 8 assists).
His excellent footwork and precise link-up play are his strengths, and he shook up the Ligue 1 with his high dribbling and passing success rate. This made him an early target for big clubs, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain all expressing interest. However, Auar remained at Lyon despite numerous transfer rumors.
In the 2022-23 season, his form fell short of expectations due to frequent injuries. He played just 16 games and 521 minutes in Ligue 1 during the season. His contract expired and he was released as a free agent.
Aur chose Roma. During the 2022-23 season, he was linked to Aston Villa, Frankfurt, and AC Milan, but eventually landed in the arms of Jose Mourinho.
