‘After being discharged, this is enough to do well’ Returning national setter leads OK Finance spring volleyball

Even after completing his military service, he is showing unchanging skills. OK Financial Group is starting to gain momentum with the return of its main setter Lee Min-gyu (31, 191cm).

Lee Min-gyu signed a three-year contract with OK Financial Group for an annual salary of 700 million won before enlisting as a social worker in April 2021. There were concerns that his skills would decline after the campaign, but OK Financial Group held him as the best treatment ever for the club, as he was from the national team and won the championship match trophy twice in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons.

However, Lee Min-gyu met an injury reef ahead of his return to the court. During his military service, he underwent surgery on his left knee and went through rehabilitation. Even after being discharged on the 28th of last month, his physical condition was not perfect.

Lee Min-kyu returned through the Hyundai Capital match on the 1st. After that, he started in three games and played full-time, improving his performance. But he seldom displayed his old skills. OK Financial Group was sluggish with 1 win and 3 losses in 4 games in which Lee Min-gyu participated.

Nevertheless, OK Financial Group director Seok Jin-wook’s faith in Lee Min-gyu was strong. On the 16th, in the 2022-2023 season Dodram V-League Round 5 KEPCO home game held at Sangnoksu Gymnasium in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, Min-gyu Lee was appointed as the starting setter without fail.

Lee Min-gyu did his best to repay the director’s trust. He led the team’s offense and contributed to a set score of 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 16-25, 15-13) victory. Coach Seok commented on Lee Min-yu after the game, “Even after serving in the military, he’s good at that level.”

OK Financial Group, which is currently in 5th place with 41 points, is competing fiercely with KEPCO (42 points) and Woori Card (41 points) in 3rd place to enter spring volleyball. Lee Min-gyu is showing his fighting spirit to advance the team’s spring volleyball even in a situation where his physical condition is not yet intact.

Regarding his current physical condition, Lee Min-gyu laughed, saying, “It’s getting better. To be honest, I was worried when I came back, but it seems to get better the more I play.” However, he confessed, “It’s a pity that I haven’t been able to do a lot of ball exercises온라인카지노 because I’ve (recently) focused on rehabilitation.”

As much as he joined the team during the season, he had difficulty getting along with his teammates. Lee Min-gyu said, “When he returned, he was not credited for his position on the team,” he said.

However, the presence of Leo, the main gun, lightens Lee Min-kyu’s shoulders. Leo is raging this season with 1st place in scoring (763 points) and 1st place in serve (0.96 per set).

In the KEPCO match that day, he received a toss from Lee Min-gyu and scored 42 points, the most in a single game this season. Lee Min-kyu gave a thumbs up, saying, “Leo’s going as an outside heater is helping the team a lot. I’m trying to match that as well.”

Leo also praised Lee Min-gyu. He said, “(Lee Min-gyu) is definitely a player with a lot of experience. His breathing isn’t perfect yet, but he believes in each other.” revealed
